          It happens when
opening/saving the configuration via connection to the remote server.

Problem was a missing newline between the generated LDIF records.

Is there a workaround for this bug? I can't get past it at all. Or do I need to downgrade Directory Studio?

We can generate a nightly build for you. What's your OS ?

Could we add a banner regarding on this issue on the download page, namely, http://directory.apache.org/apacheds/downloads.html, and point to the nightly build? I was also a new user to the Apache Directory ecosystem and wasted about 5 hours on this issue days ago before I tried build the trunk myself and solved the problem (the Apache JIRA was down at that time, so this page isn't working.)

This is a very severe problem for new users, since a) this issue affect an essential operation to set up a new Apache Directory Server b) there's almost no workaround: I tried to change the server configuration file directly to add a partition, but found since the configuration file addition required to add a new partition is over complex, it is nearly impossible to be done without the help of a tool.

Don't worry : we just have released Apache LDAP API last week, ApacheDS is under vote and should be released very soon, followed by a release of Studio that would solve the issue for everyone. I would expext such a release to be out by the end of this week, or next week.

And we have day jobs, we had to cut a release of 2 critical components that are each one of them 200 000 SLOCS line, so sorry if it took 6 months.

OTOH, we could use some more volunteers that are wanting to give an hand, instead of people being impatient...

That sounds like a lot of works.. And thank you for maintaining this software: I'm quite happy with Apache Directory Studio so far and only got annoyed by this bug.

I'm myself a Java programmer and intend to embrace the directory database technology in the future. So if you point me how to start, I may be able to help (though my time is very limited).
