We have delayed the move fromm cvs to subversion of the jetspeed repositories (jetspeed and jetspeed-2), mostly because we can't do ourselves the management of the mail lists for commits.

Items:
- coordinate and perform the movement of jetspeed(-dev,-user,-cvs) and bridges from jakarta to portals
- create the handler for the subversion commits to the proper list
- plan the "hands up" for commits during the tests of the svn repos
- create the required aliases in jakarta (for the lists or cvsview)

We sent some emails to infra@ about the issue, but it seems like they got lost in the mass of messages. Scarcity of apmail people and unstability of subversion didn't help for us pushing more for it. But the timing looks better now.

I can migrate the repositories (again --- already did the test migration once before, as I recall and my .history confirms), and temporarily point the commit e-mail to the existing lists. Then we can move the lists as a separate step.

Does that work for you?

Santiago Gala added a comment - 22/Apr/05 03:18 AM
We have the karma to create or move the repository, IIUC. The problem is always with the lists, and I'm not sure why the migration just does not happen. Raphael tested the repository migration (again) one week ago, and, as you say, one former test was done months ago, IIRC.

But it is always the lists. When I asked about creating myself the bridges repo, I got the answer: "you can't do that unless the lists are set up". Hence my suggestion to get someone in portals with apmail, so that infrastructure can scale better.

If this is not doable or would take a lot of time, anything will do. But I don't think we are getting scalable if all requests end up clashing against root or mail privileges.

If we can get an schedule, we'll send a heads-up to the pmc and -dev lists, so that people refrain from committing in a given period.

It is a kind of chicken and egg problem, so let's break it announcing a tentative date for migration, with a list redirection if creation of the portals list gives problems.

If you use movelist.roy.pl, the old list addresses will
automatically forward to the new lists. So, do that step
first (or I can do it later today).

It isn't a chicken and egg problem at all. If the information
had been placed in Jira, I would have moved the lists along with all
of the other moves a couple months ago. Even now, I have to
do the work of digging through the archives to find some clue
as to what you mean by bridges.
