Description rgb 2004-10-19 14:03:38 UTC
As indicated here:
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13426
(with screenshots included), the scalable brackets are very bad displayed when
they enclose big objects, like large matrixes

Closing duplicate.
Comment 3 rgb 2004-10-19 15:40:38 UTC
Issue 31787 talks about other problem. In fact, the document attached there
looks fine for me. Here the problem is about _automatic scaling_ of the
brackets: when the brackets grow due a big object inside (like a huge matrix),
the rendering of the brackets become ugly. This problem has no relation with
showed or not showed borders: the border are ever showed, but looks very bad
when the size is big.

Ah, now I see, where the problem is.
MRU->TL: I don't know if this is your stuff or HDU's. In fact, the brackets
shouldn't become more and more bold when the Matrix gets larger.

Still present on OOo 2.4
Comment 9 occvrba 2008-06-28 04:40:40 UTC
Regarding rgb's comment that the problem still exists on 2.4 (which I can
confirm) - do we need to update the version field which lists this bug as
occurring in version 1.1.3 - or doesn't it matter?

This is a bad bug for anyone who uses large brackets in openoffice - not many,
I'm sure, but I need them and it means that I can't produce professional looking
documents. I think it would be a shame if this bug weren't fixed simply because
it was listed with the wrong version.
Comment 10 rgb 2009-03-11 19:27:48 UTC
Still present in 3.0.1 and OOO310-m4
Comment 11 john_jason_jordan 2009-04-07 04:17:41 UTC
I can confirm what rgb said. It is still present in 3.0.1 on Ubuntu Intrepid.
Furthermore, while the display is always wring, printing is also sometimes
wrong. That is, sometimes one side will print extra fat. I discovered a
workaround, but it doesn't always work. That is, use ` or ~ to insert spaces
after the widest item in the stack. Sometimes you have to add so many that the
formula looks ridiculous.

The screen view problem happens regardless of where the formula is. But the
printing problem is worse when the formula is in a frame or a table.

Can't believe that this issue - which renders OO unusable for most maths - has persisted for over a decade!
