Description allaw 2004-07-20 17:32:39 UTC
hi,
Square brackets in math formulas are not displayed correctly even at different
levels of zoom. The bottom, the upper or both ends of the brackets are not
displayed. I attached a document made within Windows XP. I found that doing
the same document within windows 98se is better. The sqaure brackets are
displayed correctly. The problem is not new. I hope it is fixed soon because
there is no way to avoid sometimes to enter square brackets into a math
equation.

TL->MRU: I cannot reproduce this in SRC680m53. Please check. Thanks!
Comment 3 michael.ruess 2004-09-22 14:19:02 UTC
MRU->HDU: this is a OpenSymbol-only problem. With StarSymbol font this does not
happen. Please have a look, if there is a problem in displaying the characters
or if the font itself has a problem. Thanks!
Comment 4 hdu@apache.org 2004-09-29 15:21:45 UTC
HDU->MRU: thanks for mentioning that this problem depends on the availability of
the OpenSymbol and StarSymbol fonts. So the root cause is the same as in issue
32490 (SRC680m53) and issue 33406 (in OOo1.1.3).
Comment 5 hdu@apache.org 2004-09-29 15:22:36 UTC
HDU->MRU: please verify

Reopened.
Comment 7 michael.ruess 2004-10-08 14:37:55 UTC
MRU->HDU: is does not seem to be a duplicate. This issue still occurs with
645m49 and 680m56.

Comment 10 hdu@apache.org 2004-11-19 11:23:19 UTC
HDU->IH: the root cause of the problem is that the small lines at the top and
bottom of OpenSymbol's left (U+005B) and right bracket (U+005D) glyph are not
properly hinted. At some small pixel sizes Win32 "optimizes them away". Please
adjust these glyphs so they look right also at small pixel sizes.

Here is the display I get for the attached document under OOo 1.1.3 (Windows
2000 Pro) : http://jmmolina.free.fr/t_30510/text_with_math.png image.

Note that the first formula is « L= 1 over 2 [x^2 + y^2]^{1over 2} » and the
second is « %theta =[ 1 over {1+%beta}] » so for both formulas the brackets are
not properly.

Using the page preview feature doesn't solve the problem, the formulas are badly
displayed at 100% and even 200% zooming :
http://jmmolina.free.fr/t_30510/text_with_math_page_preview_100.png and
http://jmmolina.free.fr/t_30510/text_with_math_page_preview_200.png images.

Last but not least, I tried to print the document and the formulas are correctly
displayed so this issue is not related to other formula printing issues, if any.

Commenting issue 22312 I found out that the formulas were correctly displayed at
400% zooming :

and
http://jmmolina.free.fr/t_30510/text_with_math_page_preview_400_formula_2.png
images.
