Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 21569
Default template not applied when using right-click shortcut in win explorer to create new doc
Last modified: 2006-08-02 23:42:04 UTC
Whenever a new document of any type (I've tested this only with spreadsheets and text documents, but I assume the same will apply to the other apps) is created, the default template is used. This works 100% when using the File => New => XXXX shortcut from OOo. It also works 100% when using shortcuts on the Windows Start menu. However, it doesn't work when you right click in a windows explorer window and select New => OpenOffice.org 1.1.0 XXXX. This causes the specified document type (XXXX) to be opened, but without the default template applied. Instead it looks as if the OOo defaults are used.
Sorry, let me rephrase that last bit: When you right-click inside a folder (as in the part of the window where the folder contents are displayed) windows explorer and then select New => OpenOffice.org 1.1.0 XXXX, a document of the selected type (XXXX) is created (NOT opened). If you then subsequently open the document, you will notice that the default template has not been applied, but instead the OOo defaults seem to have been used as template.
After talking to MBA I changed this issue from DEFECT to ENHANCEMENT and lowered the priority to 4. When someone creates a document via the contextmenu in Win Explorer, the standard registered templates (/documents and settings/<user>/templates/...) are used instead of those, the user has created himself. This behaviour may be discussed to be changed in an upcoming version. As a workaround the existing templates within the above mentioned folder can be replaced by the "new" ones.
This is a duplicate of Issue 61713. A work around is given in the later.
duplicate. issue 40233 already has some votes (and mentions the workaround as well) *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 40233 ***
