Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 61713
Default template isn't used for a new doc from right-click > New > OpenDocument Text
Last modified: 2006-08-02 23:42:08 UTC
I've created a template and set it as the default. This template is usually used when opening a new Writer document. If I right click on the Quickstarter in the system tray and select Text Document, the new doc is opened based on my template that I set as default. In an open Writer document, if I click on File > New > Text Document, the new doc is based on my template that I set as default. However, when in Windows Explorer, if I right click for a pop-up menu, select New, select OpenDocument Text, the Default template is used--the actual default that doesn't exist as a file anywhere.
framework issue.
*** Workaround Operating System : Windows 98 Ooo version: 2.0 1. Launch OoWriter via your Windows(R) "Start" button. Start->Programs->OpenOffice.org2.0->OpenOffice.org Writer. 2. After creating your default template, open it (shortcut Ctrl-N): File->New->Text Document 3. Open an Explorer window and go to your C:\WINDOWS\SHELLNEW folder and rename the file "soffice.odt" to something like "soffice-old.odt". 4. Go back to your OoWriter window and save your "Untitled" document as "soffice.odt" in the C:\WINDOWS\SHELLNEW folder. File->Save As-> In the "filename" field in the "Save As" dialogue/window enter: "C:\WINDOWS\SHELLNEW\soffice.odt" 5. Exit OoWriter and try it out. Right click on your desktop, then select: New->OpenDocument Text. Double click on the newly created "odt" file. It should contain the settings of your default template. Enjoy!
TM->requirements: Not a defect but a wish for an enhancement. When choosing "New" from desktop-contextmenu (eg.) an already existing file (created during OOo setup within WinXX-folder) is used. This file doesn´t know any changes made by the user afterwards according default-templates. Changing this behaviour within WinXX, Linux, Solaris is a wish for an enhancement.
Same behavior for non OOo files opened with context menu (.txt for example). But the work around above is fine for this situation also. NB: the location of the template can also be : \Documents and Settings\All Users\Templates.
Correction: the work around doesn't fix the problem, the 'factory' settings are still applied. Sorry !
