Why Writer text editor when you open a document word perverteth his formula?
Comment 1 Regina Henschel 2013-05-20 14:09:21 UTC
This sounds more like a support request. Do you know the settings in Tools > Options > Load/Save > Microsoft Office?

For newer kind of formulas no converter exists. Please search for an issue, I'm sure an enhancement requests already exists.

Please attach such document and describe more precise, what happens with the formula in your case.

Testing formulas created on MS word and opened on OpenOffice
Comment 3 salashri 2013-10-11 06:14:35 UTC
I successfully replicated the bug as following:
I created a document on Microsoft word 2010 with some mathematical formulas such as (division, combination, limit, summation) then I opened the same document using OpenOffice 4.0.1 but it did not show anything. My machine is (windows 7, 64-bit, 8G RAM, 700 G hard drive). I followed the steps given by Regina Henschel but did not work either. I attached the document I used as a testcase.

I successfully replicated the bug by following salashri@asu.edu.
My device that I used is a 4 to 5year old laptop windows 7 64 bit laptop ASUS.
I used salashri@asu.edu's document and added some more math equations (including a matrix) using the math function on microsoft word 2010. I then opened the same document using OpenOFfice 4.0.1 and nothing showed up.
This is essential so that students can open up notes from different files in a math and science course. Many students have different devices and run on different machines.

This is a known problem, see bug 93608.

In the meantime you can use LibreOffice to convert the formulas to our StarMath format.
