This JIRA is an umbrella (parent/master) JIRA for advancing Hive through native Hive update capability given https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDFS-9607 and https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ORC-42.

Provide seamless and streamlined enhancements to Hive capabilities that are currently implemented through https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HIVE-5317 and other related JIRAs.

Serve as a counterpart Umbrella JIRA to ORC JIRA https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ORC-42, so that corresponding capabilities can be supported through SQL interfaces in Hive.
