      Description

At this point, BOOLEAN is as well-supported as the other Derby datatypes. We should document the fact that BOOLEAN is a legal Derby datatype. The documentation changes needed are described in the functional spec attached to DERBY-499.

Attaching derby-4737-01-aa-argumentMatching.diff. This adds BOOLEAN to the table of signature-matching rules. Committed at subversion revision 985187.

This change is not listed in the functional spec attached to DERBY-499. That spec was written before the work on signature matching was done.

          Touches the following file:

Attaching derby-4737-02-aa-types-assignments-casts.diff and a corresponding tarball of html output, derby-4737-02-aa-types-assignments-casts.tar. This patch adds BOOLEAN to the Reference Guide:

o Adds a subsection on the BOOLEAN datatype to the list of supported datatypes.

o Adds BOOLEAN to the tables of legal coercions and comparisons.

o Adds BOOLEAN to the section which describes the CAST operator.

Thanks for taking this on, Rick. The new/revised topics look great. I have only one suggestion: the example in the new BOOLEAN topic could use a title – it doesn't get one automatically.

One consistency check – nearly every other topic in the doc set has an all-lowercase filename, though a few mixed-case ones have strayed in here or there (6 others, I think). Just wanted to make sure you were defying the hobgoblin of little minds on purpose.

Thanks for the quick review, Kim. Attaching a second rev of the patch with accompanying tarball: derby-4737-02-ab-types-assignments-casts.

I agree that the examples look better with a title, so I added one as you suggested. I was a little puzzled that there was no title for the examples section on the reference page for the data type which I used as my template (BIGINT). Some of the data types have titled examples (e.g. CHAR), and some don't. Maybe worth a cleanup on a rainy afternoon.

Vis-a-vis the hobgoblins, I think I will stick with my perverse camel-casing. Thanks.

Thanks again, Rick. I wanted to thank you for rationalizing the column ids in those awful tables, too. It should make them a bit easier to maintain.

There are any number of inconsistencies in the docs that should be fixed, if someone only had the time.
