Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 98157
OOo doesn't advertise menus properly > Not compatible with a global menu solution
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:38:12 UTC
Steps to Reproduce: 1. Activate GTK GlobalMenu as shown on the related links 2. After its installation, open OpenOffice 3. You normally opened a normal instance of OpenOffice. Actual Results: The OpenOffice toolbar is in the window when GTK GlobalMenu is activated. Expected Results: I would like to see the OpenOffice toolbar outside the main window, like what you would see on a Mac. Here's the link to the project. http://code.google.com/p/gnome2-globalmenu/ I understand that it might not be at the top of the priorities, but as we're considering being included in Gnome, we need to be compatible with all the major apps (Java apps and Firefox do not work at the moment). Any pointers would be welcome, although none of us has what it takes to patch OpenOffice alone.
Is anyone interested by mentoring a student on a project to solve this bug as part of Google's Summer of Code ? We need people interested to get in touch before tonight midnight, Mountain View time. Please contact Yu Feng (rainwoodman@gmail.com).
@ pl: What do you think of this?
I think that somebody would need to implement a full blown native menu implementation in the gtk plugin for this.

Ubuntu Netbook uses global menu as default, so the number of users affected by this just increased a lot. http://www.ubuntu.com/netbook/features#unity
