Description seedsg 2008-10-18 01:19:13 UTC
Spreadheet dates should be editable and viewable in ISO format (YYYY-MM-DD).
This should be easy to add to the list of Calulate Date options.

Even better, would to have one of the choices be "host default". (Of course,
that would only be available on OS's that have a host enviroment default, e.g.
Windows.)

(Sorry, I'm new to this system - submitted it before I had fnished editing it.)
To be clear, this would be a independent option in the Date option area. The
existing option specifies the "origin" date. This new option would specify the
edit format, which is currently hard-wired as DD/MM/YYYY.

I do not understand, what this issue is exactly about.
You can enter dates in ISO format.
You can format cells to show ISO format.

The default view of dates depends on your local. For me with German local it is
dd.mm.yyyy. There is no "hard-wired as DD/MM/YYYY". But you can use the format
"DD/MM/YYYY" to enter dates.

I thought it was clear, but let me try again. This is not about what you can
type in, or what you can specify for formatted display, but about the way that
dates display in the cell editor. The formats xx/xx/xxxx and xx.xx.xxxx are
confusing, as it is hard to remember whether it is dd/mm/yyyy or mm/dd/yyyy,
both of which are in common use. The purpose of ISO format (YYYY-MM-DD) is to
remove this ambiguity. I am asking for a way to make this the format for cell
editor display.

OK, it is about editing a cell with ISO date format.

Issue 5556 is about showing ISO date format in cell editing mode. That is
connected but not the same as this issue.

This issue requests a general option to set the format, which is used in editing
mode.
