Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 87484
Indian languages not listed in the languages combobox in font styles
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:02:18 UTC
I downloaded and installed the OOo 2.4.0 installer on Windows XP. I find that Indian languages such as Tamil, Hindi, Sanskrit etc are not listed among the languages in the font properties of paragraph styles. When the names of all other languages are included in the default install of OOo itself even when no language tools (spellcheck etc) for those languages are available, I don't see why Indian languages are not mentioned. Please note that I am not asking for spellcheck etc for Indian languages in the default install, only that their names also be included in the language combobox so I can select a language to flag my document contents with. Please note that Sanskrit should also be listed among Indian languages. Reasons: 1. It is a very important language in the language history of mankind. 2. It is still used for many purposes, not all of which are arcane, in India and perhaps in other places too. 3. It has its own place in the ISO list of language codes, and has its own codes - sa and san, as seen at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_639-1_codes. 4. MS Word lists Sanskrit. While that by itself is not a sufficient reason, it does go to show that while MS Word has apparently considered the above reasons.
@ sba: Please have e look.
I haven't a clue what "the languages in the font properties of paragraph styles" might mean. May be this one is about languages in selectors in menu 'Tools -> Optins -> Language swttings -> Languages. (a) There I find "Hini" and "Tamil" in CTL selector (already in OOo 2.0.3) (b) "Sanskrit" is a very ambiguous term for that one we would need a separate Enhancement issue if someone wants to add Classical Sanskrit or Vedic Sanskrit or spoken language Sanskrit or whatever. So IRREPRODUCIBLE for now!
