Description gmolleda 2005-10-29 11:47:16 UTC
Hi, I have added, in "Windows Explorer", the show (mostrar in spanish)
characteristic in Archive types (Tipos de Archivo in spanish) with command
"...simpress" -show "%1" identical to show for odt documents.
The result is that the document is oppened but don't show in presentation mode (F5).

I think that the correct is import and show the document if I use the -show
argument. Or include other argument to do it.

Better if force the -show argument when I double-click in pps type file in the
Windows Explorer.

I don´t know if is defect or enhancement.

I believed that same behaviour is if I open pps file in Linux.

Thanks you.

Same behaviour in linux: Guadalinex 2004 (based in debian sarge). Kernel 2.6.5. KDE.
If I choice "Open with" --> soffice -show
then ooo 2.0 open the document but don't follow to presentation. I need use the
F5 key.

Both, windows and linux, I use OpenOffice 2.0 in spanish.

Bye.

Reassigned.

More: I think that to create a new extension for OpenOffice, as ppt - pps, is
sufficient.

It is very useful in public presentations.

And better if directly open presentation and not view 1 second the simpress
application.

My english is very poor. I'm sorry, I'm spanish and only read english.

Set to new and change the target.

Update using 2.4.1 found in Ubuntu 8.10:
- the -show now open it in presentation mode. However it first open it in edit
mode and after a second change automatically to presentation mode. This is not
really nice;
- .pps files are not yet opened in presentation mode. As a workaround I suggest
to use the ImpressRunner extension from http://oooconv.free.fr/impressRunner/ .
With that installed the behaviour is the same of when using the -show command
line option.

It would be nice to have this properly fixed as it's an important feature when
you want to use OOo on conference room, where the speaker arrives with its .pps
file: if it starts in presentation mode there are no problem. If, instead,
starts in edit mode it confuses the user (which most of the time never used OOo).

TODO: test with 3.0.0.

In OpenOffice.org 3.0 is the same behaviour.
simpress -show filename.pps open the simpress 1 second and launch the
presentation. If press the ESC key, close presentation and show simpress.

Can someone retitle this as something like "MS Office .pps files should open in
presentation mode as with MS PowerPoint"?

There is now the separate Issue 96601 for the "'-show' command-line option
should instantly open in presentation mode" problem.

close as dup, but I'll add a link to #96601 to #52755
