Description matius_4 2005-09-16 01:03:47 UTC
Hi,

I'm currently having issues when importing this file. The sounds that are
meant to play don't. I also have very slugish animations and effects. I am
running a 3.0GHz with 1GB DDR 400 Ram.

I have also sent the problematic file to two friends who also has the same
issues as me. Both are running Windows XP with newish machines. The sound
issue could just be due to broken links within the file. It does need to be
confirmed though.

The sluggyness is a definite problem though. Here is the file I am using
(Note: I can't attatch the file as it is above the allocated file limit.)

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/magazineforall/Jumpy_Powerpoint_Import.ppt

This file was saved from Microsoft Powerpoint 2000 and then imported into Open
Office. The file plays ok in Microsoft Powerpoint. I am not sure about the
sound though. This is not the original file as confidential information was
listed on the original. If this needs to be looked at then I will submit it.

Thanks for your help, If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I
hope this has been of some help.

I'm not sure I have made myself clear enough in the previous post. Just a few
other notes is that the sluggish animation appears when viewing the slideshow.
Whilst I work with the file Open Office performs very well.

I too noticed a problem importing a ppt file. The file has sound for some of
the slides in the Sound box in the Modify transition fields. In PP the sounds
play while the slide in displayed and stops when advanced to the next slide.
There is no transition on the slide. If I make the slide transition I hear the
sound for the time the slide is redrawing. If I step through the slides with a
transition on for a sound slide then step back through the slides the sound
slide (not the first slide) will start to play and continue with the slide in
front of it. The sound cannot be stopped (that I have found) until it completes
playing the clip.

Hi,

Thanks for your comments rollab. I'm not sure if any of the developers have
seen these bug fix yet. If anyone needs more info though please feel free to
ask.

In the linked file I can see that there no animations when I play the file in
PPT 2000 but there are several animations when I play the file in PPT 2003. In
OOo the file looks identical to the file in PPT 2003.Neither in PPT 2000 nor in
PPT 2003 are sounds.
When you have another file where I can see the bug please send it to me or
attach it.

Thanks for your feedback cgu. As I mentioned before the sound may have lost
its links and that's why it could not be playing. I will however double check
this with another file I will make. I'll send you that as soon as I have the
oppurtunity to create one.

However. What is the current situation with the slugish animations playing? I
assume you can see the animations in Open Office. When I say animations. Just
to make sure I am being clear enough. When the mouse is clicked. Some text
will scroll to the top. For example. It's animations like this that are
playing slowly. Or have a jerkyness about them.

Have I made myself clear enough? :)

Thanks for the help. I'll try and get this sound bug replicated as soon as I
can. However I am more concerned about the jerkness/slugishness of animations.

I see several things which looks different to PPT but the animations seems to be
ok on my system.
I write new issues for the other bugs in the document.
Please give me an example for an animation whitch is too slow
(e.g. the text on the left on slide 3, ...)
Did you realy use PPT 2000 to create this document? Because with PPT 2000 I see
no animation in the presentation. With PPT xp or PPT 2003 there are animations.

Hi cgu :)

Thanks for your reply. The powerpoint was created in 2000. However I have
since updated the powerpoint (about two days ago.) To do that I used MS
Powerpoint 2003. So I imported the 2000 file into 2003 Pro. Then simply saved
it again.

Please note that link to the download is now another file.

The previous presentation I uploaded was opened in Open Office and then saved
as a powerpoint presentation from there. As I didn't have MS Office on my comp
at the time.

So I'll outline the issues I am currently facing when importing my
presentation. Please redownload the file as it is now updated.

1. On slide 9 (The lady with hands on head in pain) When the slide is viewed I
get the image with a white sort of border around the edge of the image. If you
look at the image when its not showing the slideshow it is fine. This then
disappears when the image has finished loading. Another image this happens
with is on slide 10 (The drawing of a man with his hands touching his head. In
the top left) Again once this has loaded the border disappears.

2. On slide 8 when the fire appears. The speech bubble with the text "I only
flicked the switch at the back of the computer. Some of that goes behind the
image and then reappears. This is when the image has finished loading. Can
this be fixed? I think this is possibly due to when the sound has finished
playing the speech bubble goes back to normal. You will also notice on slide 9
when the guy in the suit on a blue background animates (moves from top
downwards.) When it goes over the text. The text disappears behind it. When
the animation stops. The text appears again. This is also the case with the
text on slide 11. I have tested this in PP 2003 and this does not occur.

3. On slide 4. When the text has finished animating. It seems to smoothen. Is
this normal? I think I have the answer to why I thought it was the animations
being slugish. As rollab said the next animation is not playing until the
sound has finished. I think this is why I thought Open Office was running
slowly. I'd never thought of this reason before.

4. On slide 12. The sound that I have imported does not play. Where the
speaker icon is when clicked nothing happens. However I have tested this on MS
Office 2000 and 2003 and it does work. I have tested it on a few computers as
well. When the sound is playing it does not allowed you to stop it and go onto
the next animation.

5. On slide 13 when you hover over the picture of me it goes wonky. The
picture of me is on the left and right.

6. Finally, when I saved the presentation from Open Office to a 97/2000/XP
none of the sound is saved with the file.

I hope I have made my points clear. Sorry if I have caused any confusion.
Thanks for your help. If you need any more help resolving these issues please
feel free to ask.

Just so you don't have to scroll again. Here is the link to the powerpoint

Hi matius_4 (Matthew?)

I can reproduce all of your bugs (and found another 2 by my own).
For the different bugs are different developer responsible therefore I write new
issues for the bugs.
Your 2nd bug is duplicate to issue 37778 and I think the 3rd bug should not
occure in the latest developer build (m139) because in the meantime we can stop
playing sounds.
When I'm finished writing the new issues I will note them down in this issue.
Please don't test the m139 with this document because you can't save it as ppt
(it's the bug I found. It occures only with this document.)

regards
Christian.
