Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 45969
hidden section always appears in docs exported as HTML
Last modified: 2014-04-07 12:16:51 UTC
Create a SXW document. Enter: ========= TOP ======== [Set variable xxx = 1] A ------- Cond Section Start ------ B ------- Cond Section End ------ C ========= BOTTOM ======== where "B" is in a conditional section that is hidden when "xxx" is true. Do this by Inserting a Section with the Hide checkbox checked and With Condition set to "xxx". Set the Field Variable "xxx" to 1 (true). On-screen, the "B" line disappears. Then do File|Save As... and save the file as an HTML file. The "B" line appears in the HTML document. Note that conditional text fields do NOT appear in the HTML (as expected). Thanks for listening.

MRU->ES: does HTML support hidden contents?
My 2 cents... To be consistent with conditional text fields, conditional sections should just be dropped from the export to HTML. Also, this is how "Export as PDF" handles both hidden text and sections.

I can confirm this. This issue has annoyed me since OOo 1.x . I usually need to make a document available in multiple formats, one of them is HTML (so it can be easily viewed in a browser), and due to this bug I always have to remember to make a temporary copy of the original document after having modified it, open it, delete any hidden sections, and finally save it as HTML. This is a real bugger. I agree with the reporter that hidden sections should just be dropped from the exported HTML.
Linux also have the same issue. I'm also find the issue type "Enhancement" a bit strange. Most users would probably think this is a bug, as it would be quite possible to hide text in html using styles.
Confirmed in OOo 3.4.0
