Description pbatchie 2004-10-13 02:35:36 UTC
I began getting installation errors when installing OOo_1.9.m54, and they continued
to OOo_1.9.m56. Here's the error:

AppName: msi-pkchk.exe. AppVer:0.0.0.0 ModName: deployment680mi.uno.dll
ModVer: 8.0.0.8795 Offset: 00005d42.

These were followed by massive instability. Most basic editing functions of Writer
worked well, but accessing certain menu items - Help, certain embedding functions,
etc. - invariably crashed the program. The last stable version I had was OOo_1.9.
m49.

I then uninstalled all versions of OO, and scrubbed the Registry of all OO keys.
Then I installed OOo_1.9.m56. Now the install when fairly smoothly; seemed to take
a long time confirming my custom installation folder, but no error was produced.

Now, however, I cannot open OO at all. I get the crash dialog. I've tried both Writer
and Calc. I've stopped sending in the reports because I've done it a dozen times
already. I hope I can get to the bottom of this, because OO rocks.

I'm under Win XP Home, strong system with few other problems. Thanks.

The problem is known. This task is duplicate to 34453.
The work around is to delete the user part of the installation.
On windows :
- [user directory]\StarOffice8    => user directory on WinXP = c:\document and
settings\[Username]\application data\ (it is an hidden directory)

On UNIX :
- [home directory of the user]/.StarOffice8
