Regular expressions: 

I canÂ’t replace all double line breaks with a single return 
(ie in MS-Word:
^p^p --> ^p, 
^p ^p --> ^p (ie with a space or other characters in between), 
^l^l --> ^p,
^p^p --> ^l etc.)

In MS-Word (95 & 97 at least):
a) Open replace dialog (ctrl h from memory)
b) type "^l" in find box (without quotes)
c) type "^p" in replace with box
d) Click replace all button. All line breaks in file are replaced 
with paragraph breaks. Can also do this with tab characters etc.

OOo doesn't seem to have this functionality and is awkward and very 
complicated by comparison.
