Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 122859
Dialog 'File - Save As' input line becomes more corrupted with every key press
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:02:14 UTC
When attempting to Save As any text document, spreadsheet, etc. the text box where the file name is entered gets corrupted with each keystroke entered. The text gets darker and darker until the entire box turns black. Attempting to backspace over the existing characters does not delete those characters and new text does not appear. In general, these file dialogs are no longer useable. This occurs with all apps, word processor, spreadsheet, drawing, etc. I did not have this issue with previous version 3.4.1 which I just upgraded from. All other parameters on the platform remained the same, Fedora Core 18 64-bit, ICEWM desktop manager, pretty run-of-the-mill install.
Do you use AOOs own file dialog or the OS file dialog?
I assume I am using the AOO file dialog because I have not done anything special to change the configuration. I simply installed AOO and began using it. I brought in a spreadsheet created wtih v3.6.1, made a small change and then went to save it with a different name. At the point I began modifying the file name in the dialog, I first encountered the problem. Further experiments show that any file dialog has the problem. How would I choose between AOO file dialog and the OS file dialog?

Correction-- I meant to say the spreadsheet was created with v3.4.1.
Can not reproduce on Debian with KDE using Rev. 1503704. There used to be an option in Tools - Options... to switch between file dialogs. I can't locate it now.

(In reply to Keith N. McKenna from comment #5) > In windowa it is in Tools\Options\OpenOffice\General\Use OpenOffice Dialogs Does not exist in Linux DEB Rev. 1503704.

Launch AOO like this: ~]$ SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN="gtk" OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP="gnome" /opt/openoffice4/program/soffice
@Ariel, is there anything we can do in the code or configuration to make this work automatically? What do we do with this report? Enhancement request? Or it is a defect?
(In reply to Rob Weir from comment #8) > @Ariel, is there anything we can do in the code or configuration to make > this work automatically? The part corresponding to missing option "Tools\Options\OpenOffice\General\Use OpenOffice Dialogs" is a known issue, reported under bug 119382 (and may be others). But is unrelated to the bug reported here (painting issues): it is just about switching between AOO file picker and the system's file picker. What do we do with this report? Enhancement request? Or it is a defect? This graphic corruption looks like a painting issue. There are many of these reported on Linux, and depends on may different factors (Linux distro, X server, desktop environment, window manager, if composite/3D effects are on, etc.) so it is always hard to reproduce. I cannot confirm this particular one, so leave the state UNCONFIRMED until someone does.
Has never been reproduced. @Chris Elmquist Please feel free to reopen this one if the problem persists with AOO 4.0.1. If you reopen this one please contribute a screenshot!
