While creating the pattern

Draw a rectangle and open the Area filling dialog on page "Bitmaps".
Set Foreground color to "Chart 12" and Background color to "Yellow".
Draw a pattern like this (x=Foreground, o=Backgroud):

ooooooox
ooooooox
oooooooo
oooooooo
oooooooo

Notice, that the preview already shows a wrong filling.

Click on button "Add" and name the pattern.

Notice, that the pattern is mirrored on the \ axis and Foreground and Background color are exchanged after adding the pattern.

This is correct now, likely corrected together with bug 123497, which has been r1535772.
