In planning to:
1) propose some changes which should have no functional effects but merely
make the code easier to read/understand &
2) propose some changes which may have functional effects internally
I wrote some additional tests to capture how dependencies between validators
currently works. These tests pass with the nightly build version of the code
prior to any changes, so should be useful regardless of whether or not the
proposed changes are acceptable to the community of validator users
(particularly struts). 
These tests are attached as patches.
