Description
DNS SRV records allow administrators to implement protocol-independent virtual hosting in all sorts of interesting topologies. If implemented in the Subversion client libraries, the benefits would primarily be easy virtual hosting with svnserve that would not require changing to the underlying svnserve protocol. DNS SRV records are used by many modern protocols such as XMPP and LDAP, and would not complicate things when other upgrades are many to the svnserve protocol (e.g. SASL, TLS, etc). See the "Domain-specific Repository Roots" thread here: http://subversion.tigris.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=users&msgNo=59685 In summary, Bob Smith requested support for domain-specific roots. I suggested that adding DNS SRV support to the subversion client libraries would allow this without requiring changes to svnserve and with the added benefit of implementing an actual standard. Erik Huelsmann suggested that I add this to the bug tracker as an enhancement request.
