I just saw this on a mvn clean package:

Downloading: https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/release/kafka/0.8.2.1/kafka_2.10-0.8.2.1.tgz to /local/workspace/git/slider-dal/app-packages/kafka/target/kafka_2.10-0.8.2.1.tgz

Following the example in the other app packages, the kafka app package build should be moved to a kafka-app-package maven profile.
