[SCOUT-42] apply fixes on 0.7 branches to the trunk

Description

The 0.7 branches have not been merged back into the trunk yet, and at this point it is pretty much impossible to do so. We should go over the fixes applied in these branches and if applicable to the trunk code, they should be applied to the trunk.
