        Hello all,

I am a student at Faculty of Information Technology, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka and I'm currently studying as a second year student. I would like to contribute to the project "Set-up continous integration to Apache Rya" if this is still open. I am familiar with technologies such as Java, C, git, maven, jenkins, travis which I believe would be helpful to carry on with this project. However I am not much familiar with SPARQL and RDF data management and I would like to learn those technolofies by participating in this project.

I went through [1] and got to get idea about Apache Rya. I cloned the source from [2] and currently I am working with build the project from source with maven. I observed that the source has not been updated recently, so I would like to know if I am using the corrent source repositoy or if there is any other repository. Also since at the moment source has hoster in git and it is building through moment, I would like to know what tasks are expected to be covered under the GSoC period.

        Thank you!

        Hi Amila,

Thank you for your interest in the project.
You are using the correct source repository. The master branch is the latest "release", and the "develop" is the branch that we are using for the current development.
As for GSoC concrete tasks, we are working on developing them. Setting up the continuous integration is one sub-task, which should not take very long. Jenkins will be used for that.
We would then like to develop a testing infrastructure. Sub-tasks for that are to be developed.

        Dear Adina,

Thank you for the prompt response. Currently I am trying to build the source from git. I could build master branch without test successfully, but got test failures when running with tests. I thought 'master' branch was the one you are developing the source, that's why I built it. I'll try building 'develop'branch and check if same error still occurs.

I am currently trying to get familiar with the product and source. Once I get familiar with them, I'll start working on integrating jenkins. I believe that would be the 1st task in this project.

I'll be very glad if you can provide more details on testing infrastructure we need. I observed that there are number of unit tests that runs with product build, but still I don't have idea about how much of functionalities are covered by them. I would like to know what kind of improvements you currently have on your mind, so I can came up with a good proposal.

        Thank You!

        Hello everyone,

My name is Arshad Khan, I am a second year student pursuing B.Tech. in Information Technology from Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering, New Delhi. I am currently doing internship as an Front-end and UX developer at Broomberg Cleaning Services,New Delhi. I have been learning and working as web developer since my first year of engineering and worked as a part of user experience team of several community projects.

I would like to work on test infrastructure setup as I have good knowlege of jenkins and test automation tools.

Potential sub-tasks for this project could be related to performance testing. We are interested in running benchmark queries and compare results for different instances of Rya (MongoDB vs Accumulo backend, different indices enables, etc), different size datasets, maybe different hardware configurations (full cluster, single node). Comparisons with other triple stores would also be useful.

Amila, Arshad - note that only one student per project is allowed. You can compete for the same project, or you can submit proposals for different Rya projects and only compete in the competition for the ASF spots.

There is a related GSoC idea that focuses on improved deployment for Rya: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/RYA-48
More details were also added to the federated Rya idea: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/RYA-38
