Last pending task for new built-in function is to add documentation for it so that it appears in our Reference page here: http://phoenix.apache.org/language/functions.html
That documentation is generated from the following file (which lives in SVN):
phoenix-docs/src/docsrc/help/phoenix.csv

Just copy/paste the documentation from another built-in function. Make sure it's classified as a String function (copy/paste SUBSTR function documentation as a template). Note that due to a bug, you'll need to manually remove the generated html files (rm site/publish/language/*.html) before running build.sh in order for them to get regenerated.
I'd wait to do this until we're closer to a 4.4.1 release, as I'd rather not document this until PHOENIX-1984 is fixed and in a release.
