hi stillalex, i thought i could do another round of minor code clean up and improvements throughout the security code base:

• broken javadoc links
• wrong/missing nullable annotations
• simplifications of verbose code constructs that date back to the origin, when we still used old java versions
• ...

i would use that issue to mark the corresponding commits. let me know if you have any concerns.
