steps to reproduce

1. Download & extract the attached project in above specification (JavaHInts.zip)
2. Start Netbeans with a clean user and cache dir
3. Open the extracted project (Java Hints)
4. From the project view|src open the class from abstraction.TypeCastIsTooStrong.java
5. Place cursor on line 8
6. Press Alt-enter (ctrl-enter on mac)

Expected result:

Hint: Hint Type Cast is too strong is shown

Actual Result: The hint is not shown

 

Reason: Hint OPtions|Editor|Hints|Abstraction|Type Cast is too strong is disabled by default.

After enabling, the hint is shown properly.
