Description

KIP-704 landed in trunk before the KIP-778 metadata.version work that is now in progress. The KIP-704 (unclean leader recovery) code uses the usual IBP approach for enabling the feature on startup.

Once KAFKA-13830 is merged, we will need to update the KIP-704 code to deal with online upgrades.
