Note: it seems that Gradle will make some changes in order to resolve jcenter() to mavenCentral() by a default: https://github.com/gradle/gradle/issues/16018

I took the liberty to assign this to myself (I already have a few gradle related commits in Kafka repository; also I have some work-in-progress PR for this issue that will be pushed asap).
