        The board voted to promote Hive to a TLP from Hadoop subproject. This issue will track the infrastructure changes required to implement this.

        I believe we need the following:

        (1) create 'hive' unix user group containing hive committers
        (2) create hive subversion repository. we'll move the code later
        (3) create /www/hive.apache.org/. we'll add content & redirects later. (And anything else that needed to move our site)
        (4) rename hive-*@hadoop.apache.org to *.hive.apache.org, forwarding old addresses, adding namit and john as moderators.
        (5) create private@hive.apache.org with namit and john as moderators

        Initial PMC & committers are:

                     * Namit Jain (namit@apache.org)
                     * John Sichi (jvs@apache.org)
                     * Zheng Shao (zshao@apache.org)
                     * Edward Capriolo (appodictic@apache.org)
                     * Raghotham Murthy (rsm@apache.org)
                     * Ning Zhang (nzhang@apache.org)
                     * Paul Yang (pauly@apache.org)
                     * He Yongqiang (he yongqiang@apache.org)
                     * Prasad Chakka (prasadc@apache.org)
                     * Joydeep Sen Sarma (jsensarma@apache.org)
                     * Ashish Thusoo (athusoo@apache.org)

        It seems that private@hive.apache.org is not working.

        I send a mail to that, but did not get it myself

        Namit, mind readers we are not, you provided us your namit@apache.org address so that is the address subscribed to the private list. When you send from your facebook address of course it will not appear.

        So you can do either:

        a) send from you apache address

        b) approve the pending message from your facebook address -- you are a moderator and moderation requests are going to your facebook email account because that is your apache forwarding address. If you didnt see your message go to the private list, you should of at least seen the moderation request to approve the message.

        Jump on #asfinfra if you continue to have problems.

        I was able to get the moderation request mail on yahoo account when I changed the .forward on namit@apache to my yahoo account namit_jain@yahoo.com.
        For some reason, the spam filter did not let the moderation mail come to my facebook account. This is surprising because I am getting other apache mails
        correctly forwarded to my facebook account.

        I had the following questions:

        1. How do we make this list un-moderated ?
        2. How do we add other people (members of the pmc) and other people in the future to this list ?

        Thanks

        Your spam filters are your problem.

        answers to questions:

        1. No , you can not make the private list unmoderated. Subscribers need to be vetted as either PMC members or ASF members so this MUST be a moderated list.

        2. You can add Hive PMC members and ASF members to the list by moderated there initial messages through with 'reply all' You can ask your PMC members to subscribe using the hive-private-subscribe - at - apache dot org address and again reply to accept. You can give me a list of email addreses of those you wish adding to the private list and I'll add them initially. You can ask me to add any other Hive PMC member who knows how to moderate to be a moderator for the private list.

        IMPORTANT: DO NOT add anyone to the private list who is not a HIve PMC member or who is not an ASF Member.
