Description

Several users have reported seeing

Block locality metadata for table 'foo' may be stale. Consider running "INVALIDATE METADATA foo"

messages frequently. Running INVALIDATE METADATA doesn't fix anything. The most likely cause is that Impala is either a) misinterpreting the statistics that HDFS returns about which bytes were read remotely or b) actually doing a little bit of remote reading when it does not expect to.

The messages are benign, but annoying.
