Description
Debian 8 ("jessie") reached end-of-life on 2020-06-30; see the announcement at https://www.debian.org/News/2020/20200709.
With no security updates provided, it is not practical for Impala to keep supporting Debian 8, so I propose retiring support for this OS version.
This means that the native-toolchain project will not build (and publish) Debian 8 tarballs for new versions.
This is also a workaround for the recent problems around repo signature verification seen for Debian 8 package repos.
[Edit: adding links to the relevant mail thread, originally mentioned in IMPALA-10011]
As there was a proposal to drop Debian 8 from the list of supported OSs (https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/r19b95826b59486d61c1f8f5c1edd93adb8ec9925f66ff42c0c103d66%40%3Cdev.impala.apache.org%3E) and from the toolchain (https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/r926b966211e6f5bd9e90a3f4d5161a2ceaad38aae58f14d6e261e806%40%3Cdev.impala.apache.org%3E), my proposal is to remove the Debian 8 infrastructure from native-toolchain/master. As a result Debian 8 binary packages would also stop being published at https://native-toolchain.s3.amazonaws.com
