Description

In https://github.com/apache/ozone/pull/6385 (HDDS-10527) ritesh suggested a more generic approach of a generation ID could be added to the wider Ozone API to make the optimistic locking overwrite idea more flexible and exposed to other applications:

Why not just introduce an object generation field and expose this API (in the future for applications itself).

This idea warrants further exploration as it would be a good addition to Ozone in general.
