    Description

      Per a discussion in HADOOP-9397, there are a couple of different ways compressed tarballs are generated during the build. Some projects create a dist-maketar.sh script that pipes the output of tar through gzip, while hadoop-dist creates a dist-tar-stitching.sh script which runs the commands separately. Ideally these should be made consistent.
