I tried running a simple ctas query from stevens branch (https://github.com/StevenMPhillips/incubator-drill/tree/partitioning3) which contains the auto partition feature, and it failed with an IOOB exception. (

create table l as select l_orderkey, l_linenumber from cp.`tpch/lineitem.parquet`;
Error: SYSTEM ERROR: java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Index: 0, Size: 0

This is just plain old ctas without the new auto partition feature which is broken.
