For some reason, it is hard to find the following
http://wiki.apache.org/db-derby/DerbyDev
starting anywhere on the community webpages.
Also, please clarify whether this document is still valid: http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/db/derby/code/trunk/java/testing/README.htm?view=co
It keeps getting distributed and is linked from the web pages.
