Major Description
A major feature of DFDL slated for v2.0 of the spec is the offset pointer feature described in this DFDL Workgroup document:
This needs prototyping/implementation in Daffodil as a way of thoroughly vetting the feature proposal and getting clarifications where it is unclear, as well as providing a 2nd implementation which is needed for the standards process.
(note: At one time it was thought that this indirection feature might be sufficient to allow DFDL to describe some complex pointer/offset based data formats like TIFF image format. That problem seems to still be out of reach due to the "linked-list of unknown length" situation in that format. This capability is not present in the proposed DFDL extension.)
