Michael Mior, I don't see resources assigned for some of the issues you have marked as blockers, e.g. CALCITE-1891. Do you have someone in mind to work on them?

Julian Hyde I bumped most of the issues to the next release. The remaining ones that you aren't working on I'm hoping to at least investigate myself. Not sure if any of them will make it in.

The only true blocker is CALCITE-1972. We need to do this to comply with Apache release policy.

True. Blockers just seemed like an easy way to track things which we're currently aiming to get in this release. I don't expect all the remaining issues to make it.

Julian Hyde Are you still hoping to include the remaining three PRs you identified above?

Two of those PRs are not going to make it: in CALCITE-1960 I'm still waiting for the author to add adequate tests; CALCITE-1940 is making progress but is still big, complex, and in need of further review and work.

I think CALCITE-1947 will make it. It has been through several iterations and is converging. I need to review the latest. I'm on vacation now but will get to it this evening.

We could potentially have a first RC and start the vote Wednesday morning, as long as the release notes are done and we have tested the various configurations.

Reviewing your changes to HISTORY.md in https://git1-us-west.apache.org/repos/asf?p=calcite.git;a=commit;h=c0adb86b:

          • Can you convert JIRA case numbers to hyper-links
          • Can you indent sub-tasks, e.g. "Vmstat table function for sqlsh" is a sub-task of "CALCITE-1896 OS adapter and sqlsh"
          • Changes to Parser.jj usually qualify as "new features". In particular CALCITE-1886, CALCITE-1845, CALCITE-1709.
          • Can you add a couple of paragraphs summarizing the release. (Yes, this is hard to write! But useful, because it is the main thing that grabs people when they see the release announcement.)
          • Add back-ticks where appropriate so that identifiers are rendered in fixed-width font (and upper-case, in the case of CALCITE-1947).
          • CALCITE-1901 is a "web site" change
          • Remark that CALCITE-1941 and CALCITE-1069 are breaking changes.

Thanks for reviewing. Adding the hyperlinks and a summary was already on my todo list. Just wanted to commit to save my progress. I'll work through the rest of the changes as well.

You may find https://github.com/julianhyde/share/blob/master/tools/relNotes useful, to generate the hyper-links.
