We currently have Apache Hadoop 1.0.1. Let's update to the latest (1.0.3 or greater) .
There's a 1.1.0 release in progress, I'd use that.
Bruno, 1.0.3 isn't usable without HADOOP-8417
Also, Oozie won't get built work without OOZIE-810
As far as BigTop doesn't create custom patching for the stacks, we won't be able to make it.

So I am actually thinking about pointing it to the coming version for now, so we can fix any remaining issue before it gets released.

Here is a patch to move Apache Hadoop to the tip of branch-1.1.
So we can validate that it will build and work by the time Apache Hadoop 1.1 comes out
