in hadoop-0.23 the sha for Hadoop needs to be bumped to the 23.1-SNAPSHOT cut off point

        I think there's a merit for us to stay with 0.23.0 version, hence the workaround for maven. I do understand that there's a patch available upstream, but for now, lets use this approach. Thoughts?

        As Bruno pointed out https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MAPREDUCE-3477 was supposed to fix it, but I still see spurious failures I need more time to investigate, in the meantime the proposed hack seems to be harmless enough to have HBase & co. unblocked.
