Ambari: Version Definition File
Description
Use a new concept to install and add repositories: The Version Definition File (VDF). The VDF is used to explicitly state what is available in a release/repository.
It is desirable to know exactly what is being installed using Ambari. The amount of repository management systems (yum/rpm, zypper/rpm, apt-get etc) make it infeasible to allow Ambari to know what is in them. It is up to distributions to provide information regarding a release in a friendly manner.
VDF processing includes defining the release, versions that are available. This file is to be written in XML and validated using XSD.
