Description PC-Bug Fixer 2011-11-08 05:43:31 UTC
Hi Folks,

On my cPanel, in the SpamAssassin window it has,
(Note: [5] is the default setting. The lower the number, the more conservative the setting.)

In the Help menu it has,
1. Click the Score pull-down menu and click the appropriate score (higher scores are more conservative and lower scores are more liberal).

One tells you that Conservative is LOWER the other HIGHER

So what or which is the setting to have SpamAssassin scan more aggressively, i.e. to increase the filter or apply more filters to prevent spam getting through ??

The higher the score from SpamAssassin, the more likely the email is Spam.

Therefore, setting the threshold higher will be a more conservative setting.

However, you should open a bug with cPanel as this is their bug not ours. Next time, this is a question for the users mailing list.

Regards,
KAM

G'day KAM,

I make no excuse for being candid in my reply !

Your answer "KAM" is a a lot of Bull Shi f t !

The reply "The higher the score from SpamAssassin, the more likely the email is Spam. Therefore, setting the threshold higher will be a more conservative setting."

Does in no way answer my question and obviously your English is also bad, hence you do not understand the question or how to answer it !

Have another go, the question is ;
-------------------------------------
The Question :
So what or which is the setting to have SpamAssassin scan more aggressively,
i.e. to increase the filter or apply more filters to prevent spam getting
through ??
-------------------------------------
As for cPanel being the people to contact, i.e. being responsible for the SpamAssassin content and Help, this is also wrong, as cPanel and the Hosting company that install SpamAssassin use your installation software and the content provided by SpamAssassin, they do not alter or enter descriptions of "How To Use Spamassassin"

It is also obvious to me that given the explanation you provided, your understanding is also misconstrued as to what and how the settings are applied to answer my question.

Then there is the concept that I should create another ticket to an other department in your organization, how about seeing that you are already there and the person that attends to these matters is more than likely sitting in the booth next to you, you forward this on the couple of meters rather than sending it back and forth to and from Australia.

In plain English KAM, I think you can do better so try please !! ☺ ☺

Wow. SpamAssassin is created and maintained entirely by volunteers. Everybody works on it on their own computers in their own homes on their own time. Not in a row of booths.

I don't think your "Bull Shi f t" is deserving of anybody's time or effort.

Maybe you can find somebody to pay to put up with your attitude and resolve your problem.

Possibly. Feel free to dock my pay.

A better question: Q: Where is the appropriate question to ask this? A: The users mailing list. See http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/MailingLists

Perhaps the documentation (perldoc Mail::SpamAssassin::Conf) will answer your question. Search required_score. If you don't have shell access and you are stuck behind cpanel, this might help http://spamassassin.apache.org/full/3.3.x/doc/Mail_SpamAssassin_Conf.html.

I think you grossly misunderstand that SpamAssassin is a volunteer run, open-source project being utilized inside of a commercial product (which is fine). But this makes your first line of support your ISP or cPanel if you are an ISP. cPanel is a commercial product at http://www.cpanel.net/.

The help and documentation you appear to be referencing are likely not part of SpamAssassin. From a websearch, the text you quoted appears on this page http://demo.certifiedhosting.com/cpsess3723832731/frontend/x3/mail/spam/spam.html and shows a front-end interface for cpanel implementing SpamAssassin.

Therefore, I stand behind my original response. Please do not use bugzilla for support or configuration issues let alone for bugs for a different company.

If you object to my “Candour”, read another post !
"BENE DICTUM, BENEDICTE !"

Besides, I will have in my 31+ years in the IT industry contributed more volunteer work than you have, and I never complained because someone gave an honest reply to what they thought,
So but out !
The message was not addressed to you !!

G'day KAM,

Thanks for reply - most informative.

Then now again we go around in circles whereby it is suggested that the text descriptions are provided by Spamassassin or the publisher thereof.

OK, so it looks like the old "Pontius Pilate" and no one can give me a plain explanation or answer ☺ ☺

Thanks for the input and information.

Unless you are posting about a SpamAssassin bug, please don't use bugzilla. This is not a support forum.
