I'm removing segments like this:

catch (NullPointerException e) // TTF parser is buggy

I can't reproduce getting an NPE. Our code has evolved a lot since then (refactoring, fuzzing, Sonar). If there are any NPEs left, we'll get them in Tim's regression tests.
