Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 98983
Export as PDF wants to overwrite the odt file
Last modified: 2009-04-24 12:23:48 UTC
When i click the export as PDF button, I am presented with the dialog to save the file and it offers the file name and the automatic filed extension of .pdf which is correct. However when I then accept the defaults I am prompted with a box to 'Confirm Save As', which tells me that the file already exists and offers the name of the original source file. This is incorrect action as I am exporting as PDF. The same error results if I use File > Export as PDF.

This also seems to be happening with 'Save As', the file extension is not being changed correctly!
Auto Extension does not work with Windows dialogues in Vista (32 on my side) when exporting to pdf. Saving an odt as ott or doc changes the extension correctly, though. So does export to bib, text or MediaWiki txt. Workaround: Go to Tools>Options>OpenOffice.org>General and activate "Use OpenOffice.org dialogs".
The same problem appears if i try to save an opend .doc document using ´Save As´ .odt (or other extension). If I ´Save As´ .odt and confirm overwriting existing file, the file produced is a .doc by name but an .odt by structure (so does .pdf). Renaming from .doc to .odf (or .pdf) or using the ´Open with´ dialogue in Vista opens the file correctly.

When the autoextension check box is checked, the extension should be removed from the default file name, so that the file picker can append the correct extension, according to the selected filter. The tricky part of this issue is: If known extensions are hidden (in Windows Explorer), the filename field of the file picker doesn't show the extension. But the selected file is actually the document file (doc in the given example).

This problem does not exist in 3.0.0 for Windows, it first appears in 3.0.1 for Windows, so something has changed between the 3.0.0 and 3.0.1, perhaps the changes between the two versions should be reviewed!
hennerdrewes: Patch looks good. Thank you. Will be integrated into 3.1 code line.

Fixed in CWS jl117.
