Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 66985
Auto complete in Basic IDE
Last modified: 2018-01-09 17:08:08 UTC
I would like to request an auto-complete function in the Basic IDE, similar to that found in Delphi, VBA, etc. In these environments, the user types something, eg ThisComponent. and either waits, or presses a key combination like CTRL-SPACE, and is presented with a list of possible options. Microsoft calls this Intellisense, and there are several screenshots of it being used here: http://www.design-drawing.com/visio/kgvbaide.htm I think the ability to see parameters, properties/methods, etc as you are typing a macro will make it easier to write macros, especially for power users, as opposed to developers.
JSC -> AB: what's your opinion, i would say not possible in the near future
ab->jsc: I agree. The problem here is that due to the weak (UNO related) typing in Basic in many situations type information is missing. -> OOo Later

Andreas, do you have any plans for this issue? Thanks a lot for your attention. WBR, KP.
@ kpalagin: I think a better question is, to ask how realistic it is that this can be implemented. If you look at the cause (see comment ab Jul 18 2006) IMO it's a pretty lot of work, if doable at all. Don't get me wrong: I would be happy if it were implemented :-)
ab->kpalagin: Currently there are no plans. The main problem is still the same (missing static type information in many situation). I don't see that the we would get a result that justifies the effort.
Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
