Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 63827
Copy/Paste unformated text of a numbering styled text
Last modified: 2019-05-11 15:40:46 UTC
When copying and pasting special with the unformated text option a Numbering Style paragraph the resulting "unformated text" always includes the numbering part. Example: Title 1. TEXT TEXT, where Title 1 is the numbering part, and TEXT TEXT is the text part is copied with the unformated text option like: Title 1. TEXT TEXT, where everithing is text if you paste it normllay only the TEXT TEXT is copied, which is ok!
MRU->HBRINKM: when copying a whole numbered paragraph and pasting as "unformatted text it may be desired that the numbering is also taken in mind. But when just copying part of it, it is not expected for the user, that the numbering is also pasted.
This issue is still not working in release 3.1

Here is little note why I copy a part of title and then use 'paste as plain text'. Because If I copy a part of title (not whole paragraph) and try to paste it ( just quick Ctrl+V ) target paragraph style will be converted to source title paragraph's style.

Can we *PLEASE* get the Importance of this escalated? The first report of this was 2006, and there are many, closed, duplicate instances of this! To recap: Something that I have to do every day, is select text from a numbered list in Writer, copy it to the clipboard, and paste it into a variety of other applications. For whatever reason, when copying the text in Writer, even though I haven't selected the number in the numbered list, it still copies the number from the list, along with the text I've selected, instead of just the selected text?! In later versions of MS Word that did this, they had an option to turn this off called "Keep Text Only". I've been all over the Writer application and can't figure out how to shut this off in Writer, and it's infuriating (why is this default functionality!?). Right now I am pasting the text including the extra numbers, into notepad, then re-copying only what I needed, then pasting it into the third app. I have searched around here and the only similar things I've found recommend people to use "Paste Special". However, I'm not pasting INTO Writer and the other applications don't have this option. What I need I guess is a "Copy Special"?!

Is the assignee still valid?
Still present in 4.1.2, over nine years later.
(In reply to mroe from comment #11) > Is the assignee still valid? I repaired that and reflected 4.1.2 as the latest confirmed version. This remains in the tide of usability-related issues that are part of the project technical debt. The project needs to determine what its capacity is for movement in this area.
One interesting thing I noticed about this - it doesn't seem to matter what part of a numbered list item you copy to the clipboard, the number is always copied along with it. Ex. I have a list that looks like this: 1. This is the first item. 2. This is the second item. If I select and copy only the word 'second' and paste it somewhere, it will paste as "2. second".
