Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 57586
No carriage return after a table imported from Word : cannot delete page break
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
After importing a Word document containing a table and a page break just after, OOo becomes unalbe to suppress the page break. When pressing the backspace key, it goes into the table instead. I find no way to suppress the pagebreak. Doing it directly in OOo is impossible, since OOo always adds a carriage return after a table.
I Writer, you cannot have empty space below a table; at least, there has to be an empty paragraph. MRU->ALCI: as a workaround, place the cursor in the mentioned paragraph and in Format.Paragraph.Text flow remove the "page break" option. MRU->FL: but I think, we could make the behaviour a bit more intuitive here, so that a paragraph containing a page break following a table will lose its page break when pressing "Backspace" in this case.
Thanks for the workaround. By the way, is the fact that OOo always insert an empty paragraph after a table considered a feature ? It is not convinient when you use a table in a page header for example (which is very common practice for a logo, date of creation, project name, ...), as you have to set the font size of this empty paragraph to a very little number to avoid loosing to much space...
Set target.
Would having an empty space (instead of an empty paragraph) below a table be a possible enhancement ? Use case is : - I want to put a table in a header to handle information such as date of creation, author, logo and so on in a structured manner - I don't want an empty line under the table, since I already have a blank space between the header and the main text - I don't want to have to set the font size to 2 to avoid loosing so much space and giving an unclean feeling
@alci: If you do not import something but write directly in OOo, there is a trick for getting a table without following paragraph into the header: Remove all tabstops from header; Write a line with so much tabs a you want columns; Mark the line; Table > Convert > Text to table.
