Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 47111
Auto-inserted empty page should honour page layout
Last modified: 2019-02-01 09:48:27 UTC
When creating a document with right/left side pages, empty pages are auto-inserted to cover a right page/right page or left page/left page break. The "blank page" should honour the page layout that would be assigned to the page if it weren't empty, including head and foot sections. That way, with a duplex printout, the page layout of the auto-inserted page follows that of the regular pages - a completly empty page (as it is currently implemented) looks awfully like a printing error :-( Steps to reproduce the problem: - open a new, empty document - insert two H1 (Überschrift 1) headings - change the H1 template to use page breaks with page layout "right page" - change the "right page" template to include a foot section and to have the following page formatted as "left page" - change the "left page" template to include a foot section and to have the following page formatted as "right page" - change the foot section of the documents first page to contain i.e. "right page footer" - insert a manual page break after the first page (inserts a "left page"), change the foot section to contain i.e. "left page footer", then remove the manual page break (this gives you the original two pages, empty but for the headlines and foot sections) - change to page view ("Seitenansicht") - you'll see three pages: the first headline/footer, a completely empty page, and the second headline/footer page. The auto-inserted page should contain the foot section with the string "left page footer". This problem occurs in all versions of OpenOffice.org.
Reassigned to "requirements".
This issue is mentioned in #3910 as well - I think it is worth a separate issue, since it can be implemented independantly and is acutally NOT related to the "unwanted blank page" issue that is the main thread in 3910.

This feature is essential for juridical documents, because the pages must be numbered consecutively in such documents.
I can see why this is necessary. I have also been asked whether it is possible to assign a template to these "automatically inserted blank pages". This to say "page intentionally left blank" or similar. An option to choose between these alternatives, or the current behaviour for each document would be welcome.
It is very important to have some control over the automatically inserted blank page. When defining a paragraph style, you can select to insert a page break and can even specify the page style. We need the same for the blank page, specify the page style. Or we could specify the name of a file containing the page we want inserted.

If the issue status is something developers look at when deciding whether to follow-up or not, then somebody with proper privledges should change the status of this issue to "confirmed" - the behaviour is reproducable even with the latest OO.org releases and is a significant problem in professional environments. Maybe the "unconfirmed" status is the reason why this issue is idling for years now?

Hi, I write technical training books, and I use master documents a lot. I want to send my PDF directly to a two side printer, but i cant do this directly, first I have to check my end of chapters to see if there is a blank page, if so, i have to manipulate my master document in such a way that i insert blank lines to force an "empty" page with proper headings and footers. This problem makes me do many manual inserting/deleting of empty paragraphs before sending to print. I think it would be very useful to have control over the page style of the autoinserted blank page. thanks for any help.

When is this going to be fixed? It's been 5 years already !!!
5 years and so far no leads! strange...
adding myself to the cc list Almost six years since initial request :-(
13.5 years and counting... It seems a little ridiculous that an issue is open that long and nothing happens. Looks more and more like another way to say WONT_FIX, sadly... :-(
Can you please test with latest Version? It is old nobody knows what has happens. It is 13 years as you point out. This would help us to reinvestigate the issue. After all it is a new management. Also nice would be if you can check if there are duplicates. This would help us out. Since there so many bugs. You never find the important one. Thank you for remind us on this one.

The issue is still there in v4.1.5 I have added two attachment showing the problem, where page 4 (auto added) is a completely blank page. It isn't using the "Left page"-format as i should in the case. (...or even better, would be that it used a "Blank Left Page"-format, so that one can design how blank pages should look like, for example with the text "This page is intentionally left blank." in big letters diagonally over the page , or something like that.)
....also notice (in attachment Issue47111.odt and Issue47111.pdf) that the header on the last page (the page after the blank page) is strangely placed higher then the other headers, i.e. ignoring the above paragraph spacing !!! Easily shown by increasing the above paragraph spacing to 1 inch, on the "Indent & Spacing"-tab of the Paragraph style for "Heading 1".
I understand. Thanks for testing and all the observations.
Is there any progress on this issue?
