Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 26446
inherit font size of formulas from paragraph
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:42:34 UTC
I have found some issues dealing with font size of formulas (5092, 5266, 12615, 17470) but my proposal differs from those. In Writer, where a formula is always anchored as character, the formula should inherit the font size of the paragraph. So when changing the font size of the paragraph or copying or moving the formula to a new place, the font size will always fit to the surrounding text. You can adapt the UI by making a new entrance "inherited" in the drop down list of "base size". In Impress the formula can inherit the font size from the assigned graphic style. Of cause hard formatting the font size via base size should be still possible.
TL->BH: Enhancement. Please take over. Thanks!
An alternative solution... http://fr.openoffice.org/Documentation/Outils/AddonTailleFormule1.zip Short french description: http://fr.openoffice.org/Documentation/Outils/index.html (This add-on tool in included in Dmaths, a GPL add-on to OOo: http://www.dmaths.org )
I strongly support Regina's idea. Sometimes I have a document with dozens of formulae and like to change the document's overall text size. Currently this would mean changing the font size for every singly formula separately, wouldn't it? This suggestion would REALLY simplify such task. PS: Can anybody translate to English/German what exactly this TailleFormule addon does?
This is a good suggestion. I prefer having formulae slighty bigger than the text, so that I suggest the formulae base size could depend on the text base size through a user-defined coefficient. Similarly, I'd like the formula fonts to be possibly inherited from the text one.
> so that I suggest the formulae base size could depend on the text base size > through a user-defined coefficient. ... which brings me to the idea of having formula templates, equal to paragraph or text templates. Such a formula template could define: - Font sizes e.g.: - base size, usually 100% of paragraph text size, or 120% for "umr5174" ;-) - indices size, usually 60% of base size and so on ... - Overall Formula fonts and color - positioning and anchoring (as f.e. "as character", "to paragraph") - insets (2 mm left, 2 mm right to text) - other things, e.g formula borders and background color (I think someone else suggested this in another issue.) Advantages: 1.) It would be possible to create formula templates, e g. for separate vs. in-text formulae or for formulae within a table (having smaller fonts). 2.) Changing a formula from in-text to separate would require only one-two clicks in the stylist. 3.) Changing one of the templates would correct sizes etc. for all such formulae in the whole document. Anyway, this would improve usebility a lot and would also solve Regina's problem - if sizes relative to the paragraph text size are supported. Should I open another issue for this suggestion? OS set to All.

Yes please! :-)

Should apply in all possible cases: e.g. to formulas in footnotes, table headers, table content.
