Description tchernobog 2003-04-20 21:16:31 UTC
While talking with the MathML project at Mozilla.org, I realized the importance
to have a good filter to export formulas in an updated MathML format. Many
people in the newsgroup criticized OpenOffice's exporting filter, asking for a
better one. The code generated with the formula editor, in fact, is unclear.
Since OpenOffice.org is working as to be XML compliant, MathML should be
rendered correctly. Thank you very muck, Matteo.

TL->CMC: May you have a look or just pass this on as enhancement
request (as it is stated) to BH. Whatever seems mor fit to you.
Thanks!

We tried to support MathML 1.01. We would really need a new MathML 2.0
filter. Theres a good deal of work in this, not least that the formula
editor itself would have to be enhanced to handle the various features
of MathML that it currently cannot.

Based on 3 people command and my opinion, I think we need to support
MathML 2.0 http://www.w3.org/Math/
or newer if available and it is implemented in OOo 2.0 I think
probability there is new MathML version

From 2003-10-21, MathML 2.0 Second Edition is a W3C recommandation.

Issue 10284 and Issue 13657 are not duplicated ?

Spacing in StarMath formulas are not correct translated to the MathML specification.
Since Openoffice formula relys on the on the StarMath annotation inside the
MathML to import the data this does not effect openoffice however when the using
the exported MathMLs in other applications such as Mozilla the spacing is
missing. This is due to the fact that the codes ~ and ` symbol are not
translated to main MathML specification.
A similar problem exists with white space in the embedded texts within the
StarMath code as in
“ test â€
which is translated to MathML as
<math:mtext> test </math:mtext>
but xml ignores leading and trailing whitespace (at least in Mozilla).
Comment 6 erddsd34 2006-01-05 14:56:40 UTC
Since OpenOffice claims to natively support ODF, which includes MathML
ODF, and not by using StarMath annotation fields. A Formula created and saved as
MathML should be reloadable without errors with the StarMath annotation field.
Get the codes that exist already in StarMath to export correctly then focus on
the updating the star math codes to support the added features in MathML.
See my earlier comment.

OASIS Open Document Format for Office Applications (OpenDocument) Version 1.2 Section 1.3 lists Mathematical Markup Language (MathML) Version 2.0 (Second Edition), http://www.w3.org/TR/2003/REC-MathML2-20031021/, W3C, 2003. as a Normative Reference.
Support for MathML 2.0 is not included Apache OpenOffice.
